06/29/15   Gay Marriage Reaction

County clerks across Arkansas began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples Friday after the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that states can't prohibit same-sex marriage. Both Governor Asa Hutchinson and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said Friday that Arkansas will obey the Supreme Court ruling. In an interview during her campaign, Attorney General Rutledge made it clear her feelings regarding marriage

We checked with county clerk's in Dallas and Ouachita County on Friday. Here's what Dallas County Clerk Suzie Williams had to say.

Ouachita County Clerk Britt Williford made this statement.

Dallas County Judge Jimmy Jones wasn't afraid to speak out about his feelings on same sex marriage.

Former Governor Mike Huckabee, a presidential hopeful, called the Supreme Court a “divided” and “imperial” body.  Huckabee said “The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do, redefine marriage.  I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch.  We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not “retreat” from it.

Dr. Kevin Stevicks, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bearden, had this to say on the subject.
