06/10/15  Bearden City Council Meeting

At the Bearden City Council meeting Monday night, there was more discussion about moving Bearden's district court to Camden. City Councilwoman Pula Bounds says the council doesn't have enough facts and figures to make an intelligent decision about such a move at this time so the council, on a motion by Denise Link voted to check on the court's activity for the next three months and then make a decision. City Marshall John Ainsworth said such a move would keep him out of town all day.

At a previous city council meeting a proposal was placed on the agenda on the question of how the city marshall should be chosen...by the people by a vote or by the city council.  Ainsworth says he's in favor of leaving things the way they are at present.. which is the election of the city marshal.

City attorney Tom Wynne said he was going to check with the Municipal League for input on the issue.  He told us at the meeting Monday night he's got the information from the Municipal League but doesn't want to release it until the mayor puts it on the agenda again.  We asked Mayor Davis after the meeting about it.

At the last meeting in May a number of Bearden residents showed up with a petition with over 100 signatures from residents who say they want the election of the city marshal to stay as it is.
