05/11/15  Ouachita County Considers New Jail And New District Court

Ouachita County is considering expanding it's present detention center by 84 hundred square feet.  The Quorum Court at its last meeting last week heard from Ouachita County Sheriff David Norwood who said expanding the jail to allow for 80 more beds would double the income at the jail. Norwood says he's currently housing 120 state inmates. The total cost of adding 80 beds at the jail is estimated to cost approximately $2,900,000.00.

The Quorum Court also has under consideration moving the district court from City Hall in Camden to the Detention Center site at the Ouachita County Sheriff's complex.  Those in favor of the move say it  would afford better security for the court.
