05/06/15  Ouachita County could save $333,000.00 by refinancing the bonds

The Ouachita County Quorum court met last night for their regular meeting at the Ouachita Co. courthouse. The JP's heard a presentation from Jason Holsclaw of Stephens in Little Rock on re-financing the bonds for the Ouachita County Detention Center.  According to Holsclaw's presentation, the county could save 333 thousand dollars by refinancing the bonds at a lower interest rate.  Holsclaw will be back at the June meeting at which time the JP's will vote on the matter. The court also heard about plans to move the district court in Camden from City Hall to the detention center site to offer better security measures.  The estimated cost would be approximately 650 thousand dollars.  Another project under consideration by the JP's is the expansion of the Detention center to add another 80 beds which Sheriff David Norwood estimates would bring in another 800 thousand in revenue for the county.  Estimated cost of the 84 hundred square foot addition would be approximately  $2,900,000.00 .  Both projects are under consideration at this time.
