05/05/15  The Battle of Mark's Mills May 15-17

 

The Dallas County Museum will sponsor a reenactment of the Battle of Mark's Mills May 15-17 on South Main in downtown Fordyce in commemoration of the 151st anniversary of the battle.  According to Bill Farmer of Bearden, it's expected 500 or more re-enactors plus numerous spectators from all over the nation will be in Fordyce for the event. Farmer said there will be a minimal admissions charge just to cover expenses..

The first annual Fordyce Knife Show will be held in conjunction with the event at the National Guard Armory building next door to city hall on South Main. One dollar raffle tickets will be sold for a “D” guard Bowie knife and scabbard custom made by Bill Post, with the winner being announced at the Grand Ball on Saturday night, May 6.  Tickets for the Bowie knife are on sale at the Dallas County Museum.  T-shirts will also be on sale at the museum and at the event.

There will be Sutlers and food vendors all weekend.  Saturday there will be a medicine show and music all day by The Roscoe, Lee and Abadie Band. The band will perform for the Grand Ball Saturday night at the Dallas County Museum annex at 2nd and Main.  They'll demonstrate and teach dances from the Civil War period.
