04/29/15  Rankin on Tax Free College Investment Savings Plan

Beth Anne Rankin is the director of a college investment plan called Gift-Ar-529. The program is not new, it was instituted by Congress back in 1986. It's a savings plan that is tax free when funds are used for qualified withdrawals for higher education including two and four year colleges, vocational-trade schools and graduate school. Rankin is on the road in an endeavor to get the word out about the program.

Rankin says the big promotion right now is for residents 18 years of age and older. In all 75 counties they'll have a chance to register to win 529 dollars to be deposited in that person's Section 529 Gift Plan Account, with one winner being chosen in each county.  Citizens can register either on-line at "arkansas529.org" or by paper entry at the county treasurers office.  Registration will go on thru July 31 with a drawing to be held at the Office of the State Treasurer on Monday, August 10.
