03/25/15 Bearden City Council Resolutions

The Bearden City Council, at their regular meeting last week, passed a resolution having to do with the repair and beautification of the sidewalks on Main Street. The resolution was offered by a representative of A.L. Franks Engineering to apply for a grant to help pay for the work. The application has to be filed by April 1.

City Councilwoman Paula Bounds made a motion for the resolution to be accepted and filed, the motion was seconded by Lois Hopkins. City Councilmen Bobby Steelman and Ronnie Quarles voted against the resolution. Councilman Quarles made a motion that would authorize A.L. Engineering Company to design and provide inspection for the repair of the Bearden sewer system. The firm would receive ten percent for design and five percent for the inspection from total cost of the project.

Also at the meeting, the fire department requested that a ten dollar usage fee be applied to City water bills to help fund fire department needs.  On a motion by Councilwoman Bounds, the request was tabled until the April meeting, and that motion passed unanimously. In new business, Mayor Russell Davis presented an ordinance giving the Court Clerk authority to collect court fines. The motion passed unanimously.

Mayor Davis reported the purchase of an answering machine so that messages for the Mayor can be received when no one is in the office. The Mayor presented each council member with a copy of the current employee handbook for each member to read and comment on at the April meeting.

Councilwoman Bounds made a motion to request that the Mayor, Iva Lou Stoker, or Denise Link cover office duties if the City Clerk and Water Clerk are out of the office at the same time during regular business hours. The council passed the motion unanimously.
